Typing Speed Test

Start typing. Measure your WPM and accuracy, see what slowed you down, then try again.

No account. No saved history. Your test stays in this tab. The clock starts with your first typed character.

A typing test that explains the score.

This free typing speed test measures how quickly and accurately you match an English prompt. Choose a duration and difficulty, focus the passage, and type. The timer does not start when the page opens or when you click the test—it starts with your first accepted character.

WPM measures correct progress

One standardized word equals five characters. Your headline WPM uses the correctly matched prompt positions still present at the end of the test. Backspacing can repair the prompt, but it does not erase earlier attempts from the other metrics.

Accuracy remembers mistakes

Accuracy compares every correct character attempt with every printable character attempt. If you type the wrong key, Backspace, and fix it, the correction improves the final prompt but the original miss still counts in accuracy.

Practice the keys that cost time

After a run, Weak keys and Problem pairs show the expected characters associated with misses. Start a local 60-second practice drill generated from those letters, then return to a normal test.

How WPM and raw WPM are calculated

WPM = (final correctly matched characters ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes
Raw WPM = (all printable character attempts ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes
Accuracy = correct character attempts ÷ all character attempts × 100

Example: in a 60-second test, 300 final correct characters equal 60 WPM. If you made 315 printable attempts, raw speed is 63 WPM. If 300 of those attempts were correct, accuracy is 95.2%.

Choose the test length for the question you have

A 30-second or 1-minute typing test is useful for a quick baseline. Longer 2-, 3-, 5-, and 10-minute tests put more weight on sustained control and make one unusually fast burst matter less. Compare results from the same duration and difficulty when you want to track your own progress.

What consistency means here

The app divides your run into five-second pace segments and looks at how much raw WPM varies around your average. A steadier pace produces a higher percentage. Consistency is a descriptive score for this test, not a universal typing standard.

Limits and boundaries

This app measures typing performance against its prompt. It does not diagnose keyboard hardware, certify professional skill, verify identity, or issue an official certificate. Prompts are English-language text. Browser timing uses a monotonic clock, so switching tabs does not pause a running test; the test can finish while the tab is in the background.

Private by default

Your prompt progress, mistakes, score, and practice drill stay in this page’s memory. The app does not create an account, upload your typing, or save a result history. Copying a result happens only when you choose Copy result. The shared Mycelgrid appearance preference is handled separately by the platform.

Can I use Backspace?

Yes. Backspace moves the prompt position back one character. If the removed position was wrong, it counts as a corrected mistake. The original wrong attempt still remains part of your accuracy and raw-WPM history.

Why can raw WPM be higher than WPM?

Raw WPM counts every printable character attempt. WPM counts final correctly matched positions. Wrong attempts and retyping after Backspace can therefore increase raw speed without increasing final correct progress.

Can I paste the passage?

No. Paste and drop insertion are blocked because this is intended to measure typing, not text insertion.

Are my results saved?

No. Results exist in the current page only. Copy the result if you want to keep it before you refresh, close, or leave.
