SPACE BAR CLICK TEST / GUIDE

How Space Bar Click Testing Works

A space bar click test measures how many distinct Space-key presses reach the browser during a defined time. The useful part is not only the final count, but knowing exactly what was counted and under what conditions.

Use one duration when comparing runs

A 5-second test and a 60-second test are different endurance conditions. Compare your own scores using the same duration and input method whenever possible.

CPS is a rate

In a fixed run, CPS is total accepted presses divided by the selected seconds. For example, 62 accepted presses in 10 seconds is 6.20 CPS.

Why held keys are rejected

Operating systems and browsers can generate repeated keydown events while a key remains held. Those repeats are not separate physical presses. The app rejects repeat events and requires release before another keyboard press is accepted.

Peak 1-second burst

A full-run CPS average can hide short bursts. Peak 1-second burst finds the densest rolling 1,000 ms section of accepted presses. It is useful as a description of the run, not as a separate hardware diagnostic.

Keyboard versus touch

Phones and tablets can use the tap pad, but a finger tap and a Space key travel through different input paths. The app labels each result so they are not presented as identical tests.

What the browser cannot prove

A browser result does not directly measure switch actuation force, scan rate, USB polling, firmware behavior, or end-to-end latency. Treat the score as browser-observed input performance under the conditions of that run.

When to use another Mycelgrid app

If your goal is words-per-minute typing rather than repetitive Space presses, use Typing Speed Test. That app measures typed text and accuracy rather than single-key CPS.
