Reading Time Calculator manual
Use text or a known word count, choose the pace assumptions, and interpret the result without treating an estimate as a measured personal speed.
Choose an input mode
Paste text counts nonempty whitespace-separated groups. Enter word count accepts a whole number from 0 to 10,000,000 and does not need the source text. Switching modes keeps the other mode's input in the tab rather than deleting it.
Set reading and speaking pace
Reading accepts 50 to 1,000 WPM and starts at 238 WPM. Speaking accepts 50 to 400 WPM and starts at 150 WPM. Preset buttons only place their exact WPM value into the field; they do not measure you.
Read the results
The main result is Reading time. Speaking time is calculated independently from the speaking WPM. Words shows the current text count or the direct number you entered. The formula is words divided by WPM, multiplied by 60 seconds.
Copy and reset
Copy result copies only the word count and timing summary, never your source text. If clipboard permission is unavailable, the app reveals a selectable plain-text fallback. Reset clears the current app work after confirmation when there is meaningful input.
Limits
Text mode supports up to 500,000 UTF-16 input units and never silently truncates an oversized draft. Direct word-count mode supports up to 10,000,000 words. The estimate does not model comprehension, images, tables, code, pauses, emphasis, questions or audience interaction.
Privacy and leaving the page
Your text and result stay in page memory. The app does not upload work, create a work history or store the draft in browser storage. If you navigate away with text or a direct word count present, the app provides the normal work-loss protection for this tab.
