Webcam Test Manual

Use this manual to start and stop camera access, switch video inputs, understand the live metrics, and troubleshoot common browser camera problems.

Start the test

Open the Test page and choose Start webcam test. Your browser will ask for camera permission. The app requests video only and does not request microphone access.

Use the live preview

After permission succeeds, the preview shows the active camera stream. The Camera, Resolution, Reported FPS, and Presented FPS fields describe the current browser session when those observations are available.

Switch cameras

When more than one video input is exposed, choose another camera from the selector. Webcam Test requests the replacement first. The existing working camera is stopped only after the new camera starts successfully, so a failed replacement should not unnecessarily destroy a working preview.

Mirror and grid controls

Mirror preview flips only this page's video element. Show grid overlays framing lines without changing the camera stream.

Stop camera access

Choose Stop camera to stop every active video track and clear the live preview. Leaving the page also releases the camera.

If the camera does not start

• Allow camera permission for this site.
• Check operating-system camera privacy controls.
• Open a physical privacy shutter if your camera has one.
• Close another application that may be blocking the device.
• Reconnect an external camera and try again.

Limits

This app does not certify camera quality, maximum hardware resolution, meeting-platform configuration, lens quality, color accuracy, microphone operation, or recording quality.
