How to Use the Project Margin Calculator
Build an estimated project cost model, optionally compare completed actuals, and export the result without creating an account or calculation history.
1. Choose project settings
Add an optional project name, choose a display currency, and set the target margin you want to test. Currency changes formatting and allowed minor-unit precision only; it does not convert values.
2. Enter the Estimate
Project revenue is required. Labor hours, labor cost per hour, contractor cost, direct costs, allocated overhead, payment/platform fee percentage, and fixed fee are optional and treated as zero when blank. Use what an hour costs you or your business, not what you bill the client.
3. Compare with Actual
Turn on Compare with Actual and enter the completed-project values. Copy Estimate to Actual when that is a useful starting point. Estimate remains usable even while Actual is incomplete.
Rounding and validation
Money inputs use the selected currency's minor-unit precision. Hours and percentages allow up to four decimal places. Derived labor cost and percentage fees round half up to the minor unit; break-even and target-margin revenue round upward because they are minimum thresholds. Invalid fields are identified without replacing the last valid result with NaN or Infinity.
4. Read the result
Review total project cost, project profit, project margin, effective revenue per hour, profit per hour, break-even revenue, and target-margin revenue. Actual − Estimate variance labels directional changes as favorable or unfavorable.
5. Export or print
Copy result creates a concise summary. CSV exports metrics in the fixed columns metric, estimate, actual, variance, and unit. JSON is the portable state file for later import. Print / Save PDF creates a clean report without controls, recommendations, ads, or navigation.
Import safety
JSON imports are limited to 64 KiB, must identify Project Margin Calculator schema version 1, and are applied only after validation succeeds. A rejected file does not partially overwrite the current calculation.
Privacy and persistence
Your project numbers are calculated in this browser tab. Mycelgrid does not save a calculation history or send the values you enter to accounting, time-tracking, or affiliate partners. Downloads happen only when you choose them.
