Mbps vs MB/s
Mbps means megabits per second. MB/s means megabytes per second. They are both data-rate units, but they are not the same unit.
Network & IT · Data rate conversion
Convert megabits per second to megabytes per second, or convert MB/s back to Mbps, using the exact 8-bits-per-byte relationship.
Mbps means megabits per second. MB/s means megabytes per second. They are both data-rate units, but they are not the same unit.
One byte contains exactly eight bits. To convert Mbps to MB/s, divide by 8. To convert MB/s to Mbps, multiply by 8.
The letter case matters: lowercase b means bit, while uppercase B means byte. That single letter changes the value by a factor of eight.
100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s, 500 Mbps = 62.5 MB/s, and 1000 Mbps = 125 MB/s.
This converter uses decimal MB/s: one megabyte is 1,000,000 bytes. MiB/s is a binary unit based on 1,048,576 bytes and is intentionally not treated as a synonym.
Use the MB/s to Mbps direction when software reports a byte rate but a network or service plan is described in megabits per second. For example, 12.5 MB/s equals 100 Mbps.
A unit conversion is exact, but it does not predict what a real transfer will achieve. Protocol overhead, congestion, Wi-Fi conditions, storage performance, remote servers, and other limits can reduce measured throughput.
