Hours Calculator User Manual

Use Hours Calculator for one Start-to-End clock span with an optional break. It reports exact hours and minutes, decimal hours, total minutes, gross span, break deduction, and whether the End time is treated as the next day.

Quick start

  1. Enter a Start time.
  2. Enter an End time.
  3. Optionally enter total Break minutes.
  4. Read Hours and minutes first, then Decimal hours or Total minutes if useful.
  5. Use Copy result to keep a plain-text summary.

Overnight spans

If End is earlier than Start, the calculator treats End as the next day. For example, 22:00 to 06:00 is an 8-hour gross span. This is a simple clock-span convention, not timezone or daylight-saving arithmetic.

Break minutes

Break is one total number of whole minutes. Blank means 0. The break may equal the gross span, producing zero net minutes, but it cannot exceed the gross span.

Equal Start and End times

Equal clock values are rejected as ambiguous because the app has no date input. They could represent either zero elapsed time or 24 hours.

Results

Hours and minutes is the primary exact result. Decimal hours divide net minutes by 60 and display up to four decimal places. Total minutes is the underlying exact integer.

Privacy and saving

Entered values stay in page memory. Refreshing or closing the tab may discard them. Copy result is an explicit local action; sharing the app shares the app URL, not your calculation.
