Fraction Calculator
Fraction Calculator Manual
Use this guide to enter a fraction, select an arithmetic operation, simplify a value, and interpret your exact or approximate results.
Calculate with two values
Choose Calculate. Enter the first and second fraction, choose Add, Subtract, Multiply, or Divide, and select Calculate. Accepted examples include 3/4, -7/3, -2 1/3, 0.125, and whole numbers such as 5.
Simplify & convert one value
Choose Simplify & convert to enter one fraction, integer, mixed number, or ordinary finite decimal. The calculator converts it to a simplified exact fraction and shows a mixed-number form when appropriate.
Read the answer
The simplified fraction is the authoritative result. A mixed number is shown when the value has a nonzero whole part and a remaining proper fraction. Decimal and percent are marked approximately when they require rounding. A nonzero exact result is never replaced by an unqualified decimal zero.
Calculation steps
For addition/subtraction the steps show the least common denominator and equivalent fractions; multiplication shows numerator and denominator products; division uses a reciprocal. Mixed values are converted to improper fractions before operations.
Input format and error messages
The fraction denominator must be greater than zero. Use a space between whole and fractional parts in a mixed number such as -2 1/3. A mixed fraction part must be proper. Enter no more than 30 digits total and no more than 12 decimal places, and keep each input's absolute value within one trillion. Scientific notation, percent signs and nested fractions are not accepted.
Change, example and reset
Use Try example to populate the current mode. Editing an input, changing an operation or changing modes invalidates the former result and disables exports. Reset clears input and result values in the current browser page.
Copy, CSV, and Print / Save PDF
Copy result provides a text summary with inputs, exact answer, decimal and percent, and steps. Download CSV exports a single result row with exact values kept as text. Print / Save PDF includes inputs, operation, results, approximate labels and all steps, without clipping. Export requires a current result.
Privacy and browser navigation
Calculations are local to this tab. They are not saved to an account, database, or browser history store. When you navigate away from unsaved work, the app offers a leave-work decision.
