Projector Throw Distance Calculator

Manual

Use the calculator to solve projector placement from screen size and throw ratio, solve screen size from distance, calculate a required throw ratio, or check whether a projector range overlaps the placement space available in a room.

Choose a mode

Screen size → placement distance is the default. Available distance → screen size solves the possible diagonal range. Screen + distance → required throw ratio gives the ratio to compare with product specifications. Check fit compares two distance intervals.

Screen size and aspect ratio

Screen diagonal accepts inches or centimeters. Aspect-ratio presets are 16:9, 16:10, 4:3, and 2.35:1, with a positive custom width:height ratio available when needed.

Throw ratio

Enter the minimum and maximum throw ratios published for the projector or lens. For a fixed-ratio model, enter the same value twice. The minimum cannot exceed the maximum.

Distance units

Distance inputs support feet + inches, decimal feet, inches, meters, and centimeters. Feet + inches requires inches from 0 through less than 12. Internally the calculator normalizes length before applying the formulas.

Changing an input

After a valid calculation, changing any required input marks Results as Needs update and disables Copy, CSV, and Print until you calculate again. Validation errors do not silently replace the previous result.

Copy, CSV, and Print / Save PDF

Copy and CSV use the same active result shown on the page. Print / Save PDF keeps the calculation inputs and result while ads, product recommendations, App Actions, and the inactive commerce boundary are excluded.

Installation boundary

This is planning math based on screen geometry and throw ratio. Verify the exact measurement convention, zoom limits, lens shift, offset, chassis clearance, mounting instructions, and any model-specific requirements in the projector manufacturer's manual before final installation.
