Remove line breaks
Rejoin wrapped prose while keeping the structure you actually need.
A visible wrap is not always a line break
An editor can visually wrap a long line because its window is narrow. That does not necessarily insert a newline character. Other sources, particularly copied document text, may put a newline at every printed line ending.
Text Cleaner changes actual line-ending characters in its source. It does not remove visual wrapping created by the width of the editor.
Separate wrapped lines from paragraphs
Repair paragraphs joins consecutive non-blank lines with one ordinary space. A blank-line separator keeps paragraphs apart:
Before: This paragraph wraps onto a second line. This is another paragraph. After: This paragraph wraps onto a second line. This is another paragraph.
The mode also trims ordinary spaces and tabs at line edges. It cannot know whether a single line break was intentional. The preview is where you decide whether the result still has the right structure.
Lists, headings, code, and verse need caution
Consecutive non-blank lines can be a list, a heading followed by a sentence, a poem, or code. Joining those lines can flatten meaningful structure:
Before: Apples Oranges Pears After paragraph joining: Apples Oranges Pears
For one-entry-per-line material, choose Clean a list. For preserved structure, choose Keep layout. The app deliberately does not guess which lines are headings or detect a document's intended layout.
Reducing blank lines is a different task
Tidy prose retains one blank line in an internal run of multiple blank lines. It keeps leading and trailing blank-line runs. This is different from Remove empty lines, which deletes blank lines and is part of Clean a list.
A blank line in these rules contains nothing, or only ordinary spaces and tabs. A line containing a non-breaking space is not considered blank unless you first choose to convert that character.
Copied PDF text has limits
You can paste text that you copied from a PDF, but this app does not parse the PDF itself. It cannot correct OCR, recover reading order from columns, remove repeating headers reliably, or guess whether a visible end-of-line hyphen should disappear.
Soft hyphens are a separate Unicode character that can be explicitly removed. A printed - remains a literal hyphen. Automatically deleting every line-end hyphen could change a compound word or identifier.
Line-ending conventions and exports
CRLF and lone CR are normalized to LF in the cleanup engine. Browser editing/paste may already normalize newlines before the app receives them. Exports use UTF-8 and LF; they do not preserve every original file byte.
Final-newline presence is retained in Keep layout. A list cleanup can remove a final empty entry, so review that choice for text destined for a strict parser.
A useful cleanup sequence
- Check whether you are handling prose, a list, or structured text.
- Try Repair paragraphs only for actual wrapped prose.
- Compare the start/end of paragraphs and any headings or list items.
- Copy or download after reviewing the current result.
