Worked examples
Four-course example
Four 3-credit courses with A, B+, A−, and B grades produce a base term GPA of about 3.50 on this scale.
Weighted course
An A course with a +1.0 bonus contributes 5.0 weighted points per credit in this planning model.
Different credit values
A 4-credit course affects the GPA more than a 1-credit course because quality points are credit-weighted.
Cumulative planning
A previous GPA can be combined with the new term when previous credits are also supplied.

Quality points from the default 4.0 letter-grade scale divided by current term credits.

Uses any per-course bonus you enter in addition to base grade points.

FAQ
What grading scale does this calculator use?
The default letter-grade scale is A/A+ 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B− 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C− 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, D− 0.7, and F 0.
How are course credits used?
Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credits. Total quality points are divided by total credits.
What is the weight bonus field?
It adds the entered bonus directly to the course's base grade points for a planning estimate, such as 0.5 or 1.0.
Can weighted GPA exceed 4.0?
Yes if you enter positive weight bonuses. The tool does not impose a universal weighted-GPA ceiling.
How is cumulative GPA estimated?
Previous GPA is multiplied by previous credits, then combined with the current term quality points and credits.
Do I have to enter course names?
No. Course names are optional labels; credits and grades drive the calculation.
Can I use pass/fail courses?
Not directly in this version because pass/fail policies differ. Omit courses that your institution excludes from GPA.
Does this match my school exactly?
Not necessarily. Schools can use different grade-point scales, weighting rules, repeated-course policies, and credit rules.
Can I export course rows?
Yes. CSV and JSON preserve the current course rows; Word, Markdown, text, and browser PDF are also available.
Are grades saved?
No. This calculator does not persist course or GPA values after the page is closed or cleared.
Method & limitations
Base formula
Term GPA = sum(credits × base grade points) ÷ sum(credits).
Weighted formula
Weighted GPA uses base grade points + the optional per-course bonus before multiplying by credits.
Cumulative formula
Combined GPA = (previous GPA × previous credits + current quality points) ÷ combined credits.
Institution boundary
This tool provides a transparent default scale, not an official transcript calculation.
